FREQUENTLY

ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Is previous food experience necessary in order to obtain a Marble Slab Creamery Franchise?

Experience is always helpful. However, we offer a complete training program at our company-owned store and head office in Calgary, Alberta, and onsite training at the new store site prior to opening.

2. Can a store be purchased as an investment without my full-time management?

Yes, provided you have a qualified manager to operate the store. We believe that the personal attention and involvement of each franchisee is important to the store’s success, and we require that each franchisee attend our company’s training classes.

3. What is the size of a typical store?

Between 600 and 1,200 square feet. Rent typically varies from $3,000 to $8,000 per month depending on the size of the store and its location.

4. What are the construction costs of a new store?

Leasehold improvements are typically in the $120,000 range. These figures include a landlord built-out contribution of $12,000 - $15,000, although this amount will vary depending on the location.

5. How much is the franchise fee, royalty fee and advertising fee?

The franchise fee is $25,000. The royalty and advertising fees are 6% and 2% respectively of monthly gross sales.

6. What does this franchise fee cover?

It secures the right to own and operate a Marble Slab Creamery in a given location, and the right to use the Marble Slab Creamery trade name, trademark, recipes, décor and manner of doing business. It also includes site selection, approval, and assistance with lease negotiations, architectural layout, construction assistance and most importantly, ten days of training in Calgary, Alberta. During the training we will teach you all that you will need to operate and manage a Marble Slab Creamery store. Our Corporate Supervisors will help you open your store, assist with employee training and offer you continual operational supervision and recommendations. Our Marketing Coordinator will collaborate with you to employ a marketing, advertising, and public relations strategy specific to your community before and after your store is open.

7. How much cash will I need?

This depends on your overall financial strength and your relationship with banks. Generally, at least 30% - 40% of the total investment is required by financial institutions.

8. Where do I get the equipment?

We have established relationships with equipment suppliers that result in savings for the franchisees.

9. Can any part of the store construction and required equipment be financed?

Yes, loans through your local bank and the Business Development Council may be available. Also, with proper financial strength, equipment may be leased through leasing companies.

10. Do I buy supplies from Marble Slab Creamery?

Yes. All of the dry ingredients and packaging have been sourced and centralized in a warehouse to allow our franchise partners to order directly online. Orders are packed and wrapped on pallets at the warehouse and shipped directly to the stores via ground transportation. This one stop shopping makes stores operations easier, reduces picking errors and eliminates product shortage.
