Just moved to a small town in Eastern Ontario and I’m really trying to avoid the big box stores and support local. Problem is, most places I find online are the same ones everyone already knows. Is there a site that actually helps you discover lesser-known, truly local businesses?

Thanks so much for the recommendation! I’ve been trying to avoid the typical chain stores and was really hoping to find something more community-focused. Just checked out Eastern Ontario Local — it looks like exactly what I needed. Can’t wait to explore a few hidden gems!
Totally get what you mean — it’s easy to end up at the same chain stores when you're new in town. I had the same issue when I moved out to a smaller place in Eastern Ontario. What really helped me was Local Business Directory . It’s a local directory that focuses on small and independently owned businesses, and it's way more useful than just scrolling through generic Google results. You’ll find everything from hidden bakeries to niche repair shops that don’t always show up on bigger platforms. The layout is easy to browse, and it’s actually kind of fun just exploring what’s out there. It helped me discover a few great places that I now go to regularly. If you’re trying to support real local spots, this is a great starting point.
